Assessment FOR Learning

(Presented at the 2019 CAHPERD Conference)

Often assessment is seen as something that is done to students. A time consuming hoop we have to jump through with questionable value.

It doesn't have to be this way.

When assessment is used FOR learning it:

  • Motivates students

  • Builds confidence

  • Encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning

  • Increases student achievement

The goal of this presentation is to introduce teachers to Assessment FOR Learning (AFL) and provide them with the rationale and strategies for incorporating AFL into their own teaching.

After listening, check out Joey's website for extensive resources on AFL.

I first learned about AFL from Rick Stiggins. In this video, Rick provides the rationale for AFL. Well worth the time to watch!
